Women’s Spring / Summer Looks for 2016
While you’re sipping champagne from Malaysia’s highest rooftop bar in KL, enjoying the amazing views over the hustle and bustle of this sprawling metropolis, the other side of the world has been busy with Fashion Week. And this year you will not be disappointed; this season is promising to be more diverse than the last. Expect vintage details, funky patterns and shiny materials on your jackets and cocktail dresses, Spring Summer 2016 (SS 2016) is going to be fantastic! So let’s get you up to speed on SS 2016 – Haute Couture, Everyday Fashion, and Local Styles.
Haute Couture
Sunset Shades
Left to right: Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino, Prabal Gurung
Prepare yourself for romantic date nights, glowy cheeks and dusty sunsets. From hues of golden orange to burning red, this trend will deliver you a perfect summer night. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different warm tones; Valentino even combined red and orange with a light layered fabric, making his dress look like it’s on fire!
Victorian Flair
Left to right: Michael Kors, Balmain, Louis Vuitton
You’re about to be swept back to Victorian Times when more of everything was high fashion. Think layers and layers of ruffles, accentuated by bold cuts and a naughty amount of skin (maybe just a tad more than was ever on show back in Victorian times). Whether you go for a dramatic ruffled dress or a jumpsuit, like Louis Vuitton, it both adds romance and movement to your outfit.
Need some more inspiration? One big challenger of ruffles for this spring is Michael Kors:
Stripped Shoulders
Left to right: Proenza Schouler, Versace, Givenchy
This stripped shoulder look is the perfectly inconspicuous way to ignite his imagination. Although Proenza Schouler’s use of transparent mesh might turn a few heads on a night out as you power in through the front door.
Try these stripped shoulders styles with either a top or a dress, both will make your outfit look stunning. As the high-street labels begin to follow suit from the high-fashion brands, the styles will probably tone down, however, bare shoulders this season will be a prominent feature which we have already seen making their appearance in high-street stores.
Everyday Fashion
Breezy Bohemian
The new Zara campaign takes you back to those youthful days of innocence, freedom and a splash of flower power. The light colours, soft materials and flowery patterns are made for long salty-haired days at the beach drinking wine with your loved one. It looks like it’s going to be a Bohemian summer ahead.
Twiggy’s Polkadots
Left to right: Acne, Topshop, Diesel
Think bold colours, funky dots and vivid shapes with this trend the rule applies; the bigger the better. Fancy yourself in your polka dress with a subtle touch of Twiggy. Retro is back in a modern and chic way, top this look with a bright red lip colour and grab your clutch and you’re good to go.
Local Fashion
Prints Charming
Left to right: Bernard Chandran, Khoon Koi, Zang Toi
From modern to traditional native prints, vivid or earth-hues, prints are everywhere this season! Whether it’s on a chic cocktail dress or just a casual sweater, wearing bold prints will definitely have all eyes on you, wherever you are.

This blingy trend will transform your casual outfit into a statement piece. Nothing’s too crazy this summer, from heavy glitters to reflective leathers or crinkled shiny silks.
Summer is going futuristic and if you’re going on a night out, make sure it’s somewhere with lights and you’ll be sure to sparkle.
