Marini’s on 57 has been established as one of the best rooftop bars in Kuala Lumpur for exactly 7 years, and this year its been taken to new heights. The newly crafted cocktail menu in celebration of this is coincided with 7 new cocktails. The range of these cocktails have taken mixology to a new level, with drinks that are creative, complex and most importantly, celebratory. From ingredients using black glutinous rice to honeydew and beer reductions, the range guarantees there’s something for everyone.
57 Shades of 57
The 57 Shades of 57 is made from sous vide mezcal with black glutinous rice, Pedro Ximénez infused chamomile, beetroot syrup, coffee pecan syrup and a blackberry shrub. This beautiful drink has the rich and dark flavours, both sweet, savoury and bitter at the same time. The sweetness comes from the beetroot syrup, but the complex flavours arise from a mix of all the ingredients giving the cocktail a full body, and is speckled with gold and silver leaf.
Magnificent 7
The Magnificent 7 Sous vide gin with pandan and lemongrass, St. Germain elderflower, kaffir lime leaves, clarified lime juice and East Imperial tonic. This drink served in a wine glass is light, zesty and refreshing with elements of local pandan and lemongrass, with a sweet disposition throughout. The clarified lime juice and tonic gives the drink an effervescent body and makes a great starter drink.
Ms. Marini
The Ms. Marini is a cocktail consisting of sous vide gin with Szechuan pink peppercorn, dry vermouth, clarified watermelon juice and clarified lime juice. The drink looks clear with a rose petal and drops of pink peppercorn, is quite light on the palate and is definitely one for the gin fans. The simple cocktail makes a good light drink with the clarified watermelon adding that sweetness you don’t expect.
Red Sunshine
The light and simple Red Sunshine is made from tequila, tomato juice, lemon juice, raspberry purée, Pedro Ximenez and Bol’s Genever. This cocktail is not too strong and is perfect if you’re looking for something light and fruity. The tomato juice isn’t lost, but is accentuated by the raspberry making it a very fun drink, almost reminiscent of a Bloody Mary, but less savoury. Give it a try.
Magnify
The Magnify is made with gin, Campari, Carpano, Islay whisky and Branca Menthe. This spirit forward is one for the imbiber who prefers something strong. The elements of the drink speak for itself, and is perfect for people who love their bitters. With strong bold flavours as well as gin and whisky in its ingredients, you know you’ll have a great night with this one. Have it as a second or third to soothe your night.
Rye Meets Honey
The Rye Meets Honey is made with sous vide rye whiskey with honeydew, lime sorbet, apple juice, orange and beer reduction and Peychaud bitters. The drink is perfect for old fashioned fans and has a nice sweet twist from the honeydew and apple juice. The orange bitters and beer reduction gives it that iconic twist which balances the cocktail well, best suited for spirit forward drinkers.
Twisted Jungle Bird
Sous vide rum with jackfruit, Campari infused coffee, lime juice, pineapple juice and sugar syrup. The iconic Jungle Bird is Malaysia’s only national cocktail and is twisted with another specialised local ingredient, the jackfruit. The sweetness of the jackfruit and pineapple are evident, with the bitter flavours of the Campari and coffee adding another layer and dimension.
